Last week a young lad came to the theatre with his 80
year-old grandmother. The next day he wrote us to say it was his first opera,
he had a great time and he would most definitely be back.
I couldn't help
thinking about all of the families who came to see the show together. There
were teens with parents, little ones with grandparents. For some it was a first
time introduction to a new life experience. For others, it was an opportunity
to share with their family a kind of experience that they’ve loved for a
lifetime.
I've never ever seen a show with any of my grandparents
before, and now only one of my grandparents remains alive. How terribly sad it
feels to not share something that you love with the people you love.
This Christmas, give your family and friends the gift of
shared time and shared love. If you wait until next year, it may be too late.
