You may have seen the shiny new Jaguars and Porsches at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre during Vancouver Opera productions, or even at your local mall. What do hot cars have to do with opera?
Vancouver Opera Lotteries contribute more than $200,000 towards VOIS (Vancouver Opera In Schools) initiatives annually, thanks to our loyal ticket buyers. We give away three dream cars and one dream bike each year (or the cash equivalent, depending on what the lucky winner prefers). Find out more about what VOIS does here.
We process almost 20,000 lottery tickets a year, with the help of 5 – 10 volunteers in the office, and dozens more at the QET and mall locations.
Did you know lotteries were illegal until 1969, when the government amended the criminal code? BC launched its first lottery on BC Day: August 4, 1974. VO was one of the earliest non-profit organizations to take on the challenge and has been running successful lotteries since the 1980s!
Since then, we've given away more than 60 vehicles including Porsches, Harleys, Jaguars, Land Rovers, BMWs, Mercedes and Audis.
Our winners have come from all over BC: Vancouver, Williams Lake, Fort St. James, Terrace, Fort Nelson, Parksville, Kelowna, Fruitvale, Gibsons, Nanaimo, Victoria, Langley, Surrey, Port Alberni, Riondel…and even one from Manchester! (Tickets must be bought in the province, but you don’t have to live here to win.)
Our recent winners were Mr. & Mrs. Jones-McIvor, who won the grand prize in our Spring 2012 Porsche Boxster lottery, and Mr. Heynemans, who won the grand prize in our Spring 2012 Harley-Davidson lottery. You canfind a list of recent winners here.
Tickets for our current lottery are on sale now! The grand prize is the winner's choice of a BMW 128i Cabriolet, a BMW 328i Sportline Sedan, or $50,000 cash. There are also two early bird cash draws. Get your tickets soon! Click here for more information, and thank you for supporting Vancouver Opera!
